Going Back East

So on February 20th, I am heading back to Cambodia. Yes, even after all I wrote about the last time. This time Linda (my younger sister), my dad and I are taking my mom's ashes home. In Buddhist tradition, after someone passes away, the funeral is held 7 days and 100 days after the death. We will be taking my mom's ashes to Cambodia for the 100 day funeral, celebration, event, whatever it's called. We will lay her ashes to rest next to her mom.

Plane tickets have been bought. My dad is already driving me crazy. I guess since my mom is not around to do that anymore he's picking up the torch...Even though we aren't leaving for a month and a half, he's already got 3 boxes (yes, boxes and not suitcases) packed with stuff to donate. Most of it are my mom's old clothes and my clothes and other stuff I had cleared out from my closet. The day before we leave, he wants to buy a case of fruit to take with us. Why? So he can give it to people. It's all just weird if you ask me.

So stay tune for another adventure to Cambodia. I'm not sure if there'll be any less complaining this time. My sister and I get along fairly well, but we do drive each other crazy sometimes. So we're going to be spending 2.5 weeks of 24-7 company, I think our tenuous relationship might snap pretty quickly. Get ready for the fireworks!

Holiday in Cambodia

Courtesy of The Dead Kennedys

So you been to school
For a year or two
And you know you've seen it all
In daddy's car
Thinkin' you'll go far
Back east your type don't crawl

Play ethnicky jazz
To parade your snazz
On your five grand stereo
Braggin' that you know
How the niggers feel cold
And the slums got so much soul

It's time to taste what you most fear
Right Guard will not help you here
Brace yourself, my dear:

It's a holiday in Cambodia
It's tough, kid, but it's life
It's a holiday in Cambodia
Don't forget to pack a wife

You're a star-belly sneech
You suck like a leach
You want everyone to act like you
Kiss ass while you bitch
So you can get rich
But your boss gets richer off you

Well you'll work harder
With a gun in your back
For a bowl of rice a day
Slave for soldiers
Till you starve
Then your head is skewered on a stake

Now you can go where people are one
Now you can go where they get things done
What you need, my son:.

Is a holiday in Cambodia
Where people dress in black
A holiday in Cambodia
Where you'll kiss ass or crack

Pol Pot, Pol Pot, Pol Pot, Pol Pot, [etc]

And it's a holiday in Cambodia
Where you'll do what you're told
A holiday in Cambodia
Where the slums got so much soul
